Our Company

Torchlight Technologies was founded in November of 2004 by Jason Smith (aka “Jay”) while still attending high school. Thanks to the guidance of his professors at the time, he decided to run with the idea of building a business utilizing open source technology. Torchlight Technologies is founded on the principle that technology is a tool to make businesses more productive and enhance our lives. Technology should always be built to do something, not to be “cool”.

In fall of 2005, Torchlight became a part of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and has been an active member ever since. We have participated in the IT Committe, Healthcare and Biosciences Committee, and Legislative Committees. In the Summer of 2007, Torchlight became a member of the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. We have participated in the North Chamber Ambassadors as well as the Health and Wellness Committee. We will begin participating in the North Chamber Tech Committee. In November of 2009, Jason Smith was inducted into the board of directors for the Center for Family Relations. In Feburary of 2010, Jason Smith became a member of BioMedSA on behalf of Torchlight.

In March of 2008, Torchlight was invited to participate in Innotech San Antonio as both a speaker and an exhibitor. Since we represented the open source voice of San Antonio, we were naturally asked to speak about open source. We were asked to speak again in 2009 in which we did.

In october 2008, Torchlight started it’s own mixer called Torchlight Presents! We have focused on creating a mixer to help charities and non-profits raise awareness and funds towards their cause. In summer of 2009, Torchlight was added to the list of sponsors for the San Antonio Technology Mixer and acts as part of the planning committee.  A few months prior, Torchlight Technologies called the San Antonio Technology Center it’s home. We have also been listed with the Better Business Bureau for 3 years and have yet to have a complaint on file.

Torchlight has serviced many companies such as MattressPro, FreedomDebt.com, the City of San Antonio, the Witte Museum, and Phoenix Technologies. Torchlight has been an advocate for open source since our beginning. We have been long time Novell partners, supporting their SuSE Linux Enterprise Platform and have recently adopted Red Hat into our portfolio. We also have partnered with the Open Document Format Alliance to promote the use of open document format. We are also supporters of Apache, MySQL, PHP, Python, and OpenOffice.org projects. We often contribute to different open source projects. We are Dell Gold Partners but we also have standing partnerships with Acer, HP, and Lenovo. We have also begun a partnership with MySQL for open source database development.

Torchlight Technologies strives for customer satisfaction, has multiple quality control processes and has unique techniques to make their client’s experience a great one. Torchlight has a few strategic alliances with professionals in San Antonio and surrounding areas so that we are guaranteed to give you the best experience with technology that you can. We work with various firms for the design and development of web interfaces for our web applications and  web sites.  When it comes to human resource policy design to protect you data, we work with the Hisel Law Firm. We also work with our advisors who offer us guidance in both business and the different aspects of technology. With Torchlight, you don’t just get our staff, you get a full team of experts in the area.
